History

The first designer of the Amrit Udyan was William Mustoe, the director of Horticulture, who worked on it at the newly built Viceroy's House. Then, it was developed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. He was the architect of the Presidential Estate and was motivated by the Mughal-style gardens he had seen in Agra, Kashmir and other parts of Delhi.

In 1917, he decided to design the Garden in Rashtrapati Bhavan and named it Mughal Garden. Many changes have occurred in the Mughal Garden over time, attracting millions of visitors.

In 2023, the President of India, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, renamed "Amrit Udyan" on the auspicious occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, which celebrated 75 years of India's independence. Following this, the themes of Amrit Udyan were inspired by Mughal, Persian, British, and Indian gardens.

Personal Experience

I visited the Amrit Udyan on Sunday afternoon, but visitors can choose any day of the week. Weekends are a little crowdy, but the area is large so there is no issue of nuisance and discomfort. The crowd walks fluently.

I reached there by the most popular vehicle in Delhi, the "auto-rickshaw," famous as a three-wheeler. Visitors can choose other conveniences.

The checking happens at multiple places, so try to avoid the materials I mentioned above.

Currently, over 300 permanent and casual employees are engaged in the development and maintenance of Amrit Udyan. No one can mislead them.

I entered the Amrit Udyan in the afternoon, and sharp sunrays bothered me. I urge you to visit the Udyan in the morning or evening.

The sun rays of summer may disturb your experience. However, huge trees help people like caring friends.

The last entry is at 5.15. It can save you from high sun rays. Also, you can choose any good weather to visit that will add the grandeur of a pleasant environment and lush greenery.

I entered Amrit Udyan and was welcomed by Amrit Udyan written in Hindi अमृत उद्यान, decorated with flowers, greenery and crafts. Then, in a few distances, I met the children's playground and natural classroom. The decorations were impressive. The paths were very clean and hygienic. Everything was nicely structured. It looked more beautiful in view front than to see in pictures.

When I moved forward, I met with a floral clock that worked on solar energy. It was settled in the ground with natural decorative materials.

There were very selfie corners. Visitors can click photos there without any restrictions.

The next, I encountered the Herbal Garden. It was intriguing and forced me to learn about herbal plants, one of the main attractions.

After the herbal Garden, I visited the Bonsai Garden. It won my sight, heart and smile. Those natural colours were attached to my soul. A beautiful smile came to my face itself.

The best point of attraction was the Central Lawn. It was beautifully maintained with hygiene, flowers, trees and plants. The paths were fantastically structured so that the issue of gatherings and unease to walk became negligible.

Then I visited the Circular Garden. It was glowing with roses, lilies, marigolds, and a colourful world.

At the end, I stepped into the Long Garden, fragrant with roses and other flowers. Those pleasant aromas delivered comfort.

Cravings arise automatically after an hour. A food court was also available inside, offering pocket-friendly prices. The cost of food items ranged from Rs 60 to Rs 120 for various options, including samosas, sandwiches, chole bhature, and idli dosa. Taste, quality and hygiene were all appreciable.

Visiting Amrit Udyan was truly a remarkable experience for me. I hold those memories forever. After gathering all the gloriousness of Amrit Udyan I left the place.

There was also a food facility outside at the exit. Street food, including Golgappe, Tikki, bread pakoras, ice cream stalls, decorative items, jewellery and toys were there.

Visitors can easily buy any of these items. They were not expensive. It is connected to the main road, so you can easily get any vehicle back home.

It was an admirable trip, and I highly recommend you visit Amrit Udyan for a wonderful venture and to relax your core. It makes you stress-free.

It is a place that calms you and connects you with the essence. Its 50 varieties of trees, shrubs and vines, including the Moulsiri, Golden Rain, and Torch tree, make it unforgettable.

Go and quickly add Amrit Udyan to your travelling list.

Now, it is time to say bye and find a new place to visit and gain knowledge. I hope you will like my words and find it informative and helpful. We will meet soon with a new place to explore.

Till then, Thank you for your kind support!
